Sorry if I'm taking it too earnestly, but corn syrup itself is dirt cheap. But to do one take, you've got to wire the guy up, set it off, then clean up after. So the cheap film-maker likes the idea of shooting 5 takes and moving onto the next scene in the amount of time it would take to do one squib shot. Especially…
