Is the Matrix getting respect again? I can’t tell what part of the cycle we’re at it. Obviously it was super popular when it first came out, but then in the late 2000s, early 2010s, I felt like there was a backlash and it was thought of as a glorified action film of sorts. Are we back to liking it?

I went on the redpill sub once just to check it out. I read one of the recommended reading things and it was a long boring story from someone in my generation that grew up with a 50s mindset and thought anyone having sex outside of marriage was impure or whatever. It was super sexist and weird, but then in the middle

If you knew it was a simulation that means the simulation isn’t working perfectly. Considering that, you might be able to figure out a way to exploit its bugs for your benefit.

Did they? None of the clips I’ve seen had them drinking on live TV. They do it every show on the Graham Norton show. But I haven’t watched that much Carson so I wouldn’t know.

My first thought was exactly this. “Oh, you mean incredible for American TV.” I hope Graham Norton is getting some kind of royalties for these talk shows all copying him.

That is true. I don’t know. The tone of the comments has really changed here as well. I didn’t think what I posted would get particularly noticed or commented on. Thinking a specific newswire is pointless is a time honored tradition at the AVC and it’s somewhat strange to me that I got so many responses. I find it

That would have been pretty normal in the old AV Club. I’m pretty sure I saw Dikachu posting in 95% of the shit posted in the old AV Club, and they were far from alone.

I would say the fact that barely any newswires now hit over 100 comments would imply most of the AV Club commentariat has left. Partly that’s because of the site UI, but it could also be because some of these aren’t for most of us, like that tone deaf “catching up with Kylie Jenner” post from the other day. Who was

Is it fun for you to be an ass?

I’m not speaking from the perspective of myself as a person who read those tweets, but the perspective of myself as a person who reads this site. What is the point of this article except to make people annoyed at the NRA for a worthless reason? There are so many better reasons to hate the NRA, and there are other

Also, despite trying to catch me in a failed hypocrisy argument, that wasn’t really my point. Michael Schur can do whatever he likes. It’s a free country. It doesn’t move me one way or the other and he is free to feel as pissed off about this as he likes. I just think writing pieces about this elevates it from twitter

What are you on about? There is no news here. Someone on twitter used a gif. If this wasn’t posted here you wouldn’t have known about it, and it wouldn’t have mattered in the least. Nothing in this specific article is of the least bit of importance. This doesn’t elevate the NRA and it doesn’t diminish Parks and Rec.

Sure. If a gif of me became a big enough deal that it could be used to endorse any product I’d probably be pretty pleased with myself.

*shrug* I hate the NRA as much as any sane person should, but this I don’t really care about. It’s a gif, and no one seeing it would honestly believe that Leslie would be supportive of the NRA.

I’m saying school shootings, and shootings in general, are not an identity issue. There are plenty of countries in the world, predominantly white or not, that have issues with race, orientation, and religion, that do not have these types of tragedies happen. Putting the two concepts together is nonsensical.

Not related?

I always feel like 90s period pieces will focus more on the boy band era than the grunge era. If anything is going to be immortalized incorrectly it’s that Freddie Prince Jr. was a star for a brief period.

I was wondering when the AV Club as I knew it would be officially dead. I thought it was all those other times, but maybe this is the moment.

What is a “boffo”?

I don’t think changing the genders makes it less creepy. It’s just whether you take it as a rom com. Many, many rom coms have creepy scenes in them, as do many comedies, but if you recognize the fantasy element involved in making something absurd, it’s all enjoyable. Changing genders doesn’t diminish the many, many
