Sure, but I was comparing two different sets of action subgenres. Not either one to real life.

I haven’t seen any of the Netflix shows, so my opinion is based just on the films. I should have mentioned that.

Actually, the Hulkbuster is great counter example, so thank you for that. But most fights aren’t the Hulkbuster. You make a good point about fights between super powered opponents being a little different, but even if we take the initial clash between Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man in the first Avengers, it’s

This makes me think that the lame thing about superpowers and superheroes is that they’re kind of all or nothing. They have these huge bursts of power and then there isn’t much afterwards because the power causes so much damage. You’re not likely to get a prolonged knock-down drag-out fight like you do in the Raid

Why do so many people assume that a conservative comic must necessarily be punching down? There are plenty of liberals that comprise the elite, the wealthy, and those in power. If the people you are representing are small town America with a lower case c conservative, then it should be possible to punch up to people

Another great thing about the Sword in the Stone is that it is one of the few Disney films where so many central characters are old. Merlin, Archimedes, and Mad Madam Mim are all really old, and Arthur often takes a back seat to them. For that matter, Mowgli in the Jungle Book takes a back seat to whichever animal

I read that title and thought “of course, why would this ever be up for discussion?” But reading the comments it seems like I’ve stepped in some sort of insane alternate reality where everyone doesn’t agree that this soundtrack is just another level. Y’all are crazy. Jungle Book is untouchable.

I’m totally fine with shitting on Lars von Trier if what Bjork says is true, and I certainly don’t condone any mistreatment of actresses. But there is some weird revisionist bullshit going on these comments in regards to the films. When did we start forgetting the difference between reality and fiction? Just because

I thought Nymphomaniac was pretty sex positive, and for that matter empathetic to its female protagonists. Pretty much all the men come out awful in it.

Completely disagree. I think it gets better in the second and third books. The second child character adds a lot to the story.

Excuse me, Supremacy was best Bourne. Definitely yes on Toy Story 3. I am probably alone on this, but I think Iron Man 3 was the best of that trilogy.

I get that logic, but after aliens, gods, AI, etc. I feel like people would probably stop being surprised.

Usually I find the jokes pretty lame, and the “Now This” segments only slightly better when they aren’t the “Most Patient Man”, but the pumpkin spiced latte bit this week was perfect and had me dying. It was just stupid enough.

Dennis, I’m not one of those people that minds that you post a John Oliver summary every week. I do think it’s weird that when you do it you focus on the Trump story rather than the main story of the episode. It just makes the whole thing seem less serious and more about clicks and views. This week I’ll give you that

Pretty good trailer. Didn’t know Michael B Jordan was in this, so that makes it more exciting. But come on, are they seriously trying to tell me that aliens is less surprising than Wakanda? Aliens? That narration made the whole thing way sillier.

Anyways, you guys have nothing to be mad about. You’ll always have Graham Norton, and he’s better than every single American talk show host. Plus, panel shows have no American equivalent. It’s not even close. And it would be one thing if they were easily accessible over here, but you can watch American TV much more

I thought Oliver did a well received radio show or podcast or something like that for the BBC? Or am I remembering that wrong?

Really? I’ve read a lot of comments online from supposed British people that say John Oliver was never funny in the UK to begin with and the US deserves him. Cordon was better on The Big Fat Quiz. He’s not a great host. He’s fine as a guest, especially with someone like Sean Lock to take up the slack.

I’m not sure if there is an actual difference or just a perceived difference, but this felt more British to me than anything. British comedians can be so vicious right to people’s faces. This is nothing by comparison. I don’t know that British comedians would wait or think it was too soon.

I sort of agree with this, in that our culture has a sex problem and a lot of these attitudes come from sex negativity in general. But I also think you are misinterpreting some of cause and effect in these situations. The reason it is difficult to be believed for victims and why they have a tough time of it is lack of
