David's review is fairly accurate regarding the unbelievable casting of Sophia, the strange and sudden introduction of random characters that only serve to further this specific episode's plot, and the ambivalent viewpoint the show seems to have about the subject they decided to bring up…

I might just have to change my PVR settings to automatically record that show, even  if it doesn't exist yet. If they could somehow get Ray Stevenson to play their main-antagonist, that would be all kinds of awesome.

That's a fair point, but my real problem lies in the execution of the character on-screen. I really do think that Zahn might not have been the best choice for the character, since he just comes across as a goof without any real talent And that's not to say Zahn is a "goof without any real talent" - just that he's kind

Totally worthless observation: it was probably just me, but over the past season (at least more so than others) there were at least a few episodes where I kept getting distracted by Khandi Alexander's posture.

I thought that scene was among the best stuff Simon has constructed. Just great to see a couple of characters who respect each other, but who find themselves on different sides of a bureaucratic battle.

I really do hope that Davis does move onto something else, because while I don't mind the character's idealism and enthusiasm when it comes to the music culture/industry and the musical history of the area, I really thought his attempts at making music became tiresome to witness and brought whatever dramatic momentum

Without Haddie or Jabbar in this episode, it suddenly dawned on me that the rest of the Braverman kids aren't all that well adjusted to life. Obviously adolescence and early-adulthood is somewhat of a rough patch to get through, but some of these kids are really struggling. I guess Amber is doing OK overall, though

No, I'm aware they're different characters. I'm saying it's nice to have a guest-star who's allowed to appear on the show just to be funny, and serve an actual purpose, instead of having them merely function as a love-interest who we all know will eventually be discarded anyway and therefore we already know they are

"Can’t you just calm down, buddy?"

Wait, does that mean Pierce was an alien all along?

Yeah, Nick's attraction to Jess's mom just added more hilarity/weirdness to the mix (I laughed pretty hard when Jess ordered him to lay down some sweet game on her mother).
