My first impression of the album squares with you guys. I need to listen some more, but I felt like the new beats were totally unconnected to the vocal tracks. Seems like an inessential effort.
I saw Gil Scott-Heron preform live last year and was happy/relieved to seem him so totally on and impressive. I'll try to

@Sg—great list, all top shelf stuff!

First Impression
A great, if kind of overwhelming, compilation. The Tussle track is the jam!

Arp-The Soft Wave
Thought I might mention that any Eno/Cluster fans may enjoy checking out the The Soft Wave, the new album by Arp. A really terrific contemporary addition to the floating-sound synth world.

No way, you should hear Internal Wrangler. I hate to be all 'their first one was the best' but in this case, it is true.

This IS the album, man.

Hadn't heard of Paid Programming before, but that clip about is top shelf stuff. Why is it so impossible to give funny shit like this a good home?

Totally my vote for Album of the Year.

whose welcome?

Haven't even tried the factory yet. I can beat the library and snake pit (a couple times so far) but the crypt has repeatedly kicked my ass. Any wisdom to share?

I must have got lucky with the wizard, don't remember any real difficulties. I definitely played it as an elf. Now I am trying to beat all those damn double boss dungeons. I missed the comments in the last column. Looks like I have another thing to add to my 'waste time' list!

Saw Skinny Puppy on that tour in Chicago (at the Vic?). It was the first show I saw in a club, my friend and I drove to see it from the suburbs. Definitely gave me an unrealistic idea out of what to expect out of a concert.

I totally regret deciding not to go to their show in May 2006, and then hearing soon after that they were hiatusing.

Yeh, learning patience, especially if you are used to pop music, is essential with electronic music. If you want to hear everything a track's got to offer in 30 seconds you are bound to be disappointed.

Thanks for the great columns. Definitely was a highlight of AVC for me. Apparently not the right venue for it, alas. Guess people are too busy lauding the National and complaining about James Murphy and his 'dance' project LCD Soundsystem to get curious about the wild waters of contemporary electronic music.
Anyway,

Hmm, I don't think LCD Soundsystem is bland. Nor do I think they are dance or electronic music.

Do you like Thin Lizzy but already own Jail Break?

There is something that seems very fundamentally sincere about LCD Soundsystem's music that greatly turns me on to it.
