@avclub-7cbaf9384cf3835106bf2f444c0bcf65:disqus  THANK you! Azula's hair drives me crazy. Her topknot basically looks the same as Zuko's in Book 3, but Zuko's sporting a slightly overgrown shag.

You just blew my mind a little bit.

Ok, I just went back and watched the last 5 minutes and had an epiphany: as the Avatar she IS Aang and all of those past Avatars at the same time. It's not that God appeared and restored everything to her. She opened up part of herself, accessed her past lives, and got it back.

@avclub-e14267dedd4e1d0cc0093bc13643fd59:disqus I dunno, maybe I saw her choice to continue living as that, to a certain extent. I can totally forgive her unwillingness to be consoled immediately after being told her condition is incurable, quite frankly. I bought that she wasn't ready to hear that her life has value

And let us not forget that Deus Ex Machina is a more or less neutral term for a specific dramatic technique developed by Greek tragedians. It's invoked now as if the term itself implies something bad.

Ummmm, call me nuts, but forcing one of your children to torture animals and his own sibling seems pretty objectively abusive. I mean, I'D call CPS for sure.

I like your read of the situation very much, and while I do hope that the show explores the fallout in Season 2, I think the backlash against this aspect of the finale has a lot to do with expectations that the show itself sort of encouraged. Namely, it invited open comparisons to real-world conflicts when, really,

"Frankly, everyone's arguments to the contrary smell of bullshit to me. It's not there. You can imagine it's there, you can see the plot point written out on a white board, but they didn't execute it at all. I'd equate this to my criticism of energybending in ATLA, that we don't really feel the struggle that Aang's

@The_Tuna:disqus Judging by the number of torrents and livestreams that get linked on Tumblr every week and the fact that the target demo skews young, I'd say you're probably right. It seems to have a pretty large international fanbase as well.
