The first 10 minutes were bad for me as someone who knows nothing about the game. Once the story got going beyond namedropping it was very entertaining. I agree that the casting of the humans is really bad. The writing was OK though I thought.

Interesting. Maybe they discovered that and filmed scenes without it. Don't know why they'd lie about that.

The review on The Verge (though ultimately negative) was the best review I've seen so far, written by someone who was familiar with the game(s), and who made some excellent points about the surprising depth to the characters and the story in the movie:

"The movie constantly reminds us that Medivh's THE GUARDIAN and that's really about all we get in terms of characterization before his plot points just sort of happen."

That's not what she said in the interview I saw and the behind the scenes footage I saw showed her sans green paint. Unless your comment was supposed to be sarcasm.

The Fell was green gas. The sorcery was blue lightning. IIRC.

How many Yuans is $90M USD? Because that's what it took in. $124M USD after 3 days.

I had never even seen the video game before, but I still liked the movie.

Well, R-ratings are only domestic.

"Risen" (which I liked a lot) was a perfectly serviceable ersatz Passion of the Christ 2. Just needed a lot more gore to really live up to the franchise standard.

"Deadpool" nearly overtook POTC for highest grossing R-rated movie, but finished a few million dollars behind at #2. Not much to do with this article, I just thought that was interesting.

My completely unverified theory: I think it's more likely that Americans haven't yet been told that video games are accepted as entertainment by the media class. And a fantasy video game as basis for a movie? Get outta here. It's the last line of defense for the "nerds" against the mainstream (GoT gets a pass because

I'm with you. I've never played a second of any game with Warcraft in the title, so the first 10-15 minutes or so of this was kind of a blur of names of people and places. But once the story got going I really enjoyed it, and it actually didn't always take the expected turns and had some surprisingly emotional beats,

It's a perfectly OK movie.

I thought they'd be remembered for drinking so much wine that they're changing how it's sold.

The 90's really only existed for like 2 years, I think.

Well, at work they do. Eh, what am I saying, they don't have jobs.

But I love 3D. That's part of what makes me want to go to the movies instead of watching at home. If anything they should push it more (and lower prices).

"Filled" is an exaggeration, though.
