I saw Stella live in '03 and it was great. Their Comedy Central special did not compare to the real live show. Black was a dick to some audience members, but they deserved it and there were many lols to be had by all.

They still run it all the time though, which is funny cause most of them were made around 2003, so Craig Ferguson doesn't have gray hair yet and Hal Sparks is treated like a famous person. Crazy, right?

Maron seems pissed at most of The State crew for their not having "paid their dues" before jumping into a TV show (and possibly being obnoxious to Maron at the time—which doesn't seem like a very difficult thing to do considering his hypervigilance). I don't know why this still upsets Maron. The State was popular but

@avclub-d324a0cc02881779dcda44a675fdcaaa:disqus Yep, that's what I was referencing. They talk about it in the AV Club interview this week.

Agreed. We're damn lucky they got to keep Goggins, though.

I think Toasterlad is doing a bit. I think.

At first I thought the tension between Maron and MIB was a bit, but it seems pretty genuine. I'd like them to stop playing nice and really have it out and THEN reconcile. The passive aggressive thing is aggravating.

I wouldn't doubt it. Standing ovations aren't exactly special anymore. Kids on American Idol get them routinely. It's not like when Johnny Carson got one and only one standing O on his last ep of The Tonight Show.

The guests have been a lot better lately and having someone sit in at the beginning of the show is a great way to rein in Adam's worst tendencies. I credit the removal of Donny as producer with the improvement in quality. But yeah, I don't know if AVC is necessarily the audience for Carolla—he's a love him/hate him

I'd like to show this article to any of the hundreds of bands who travel the country in shitty vans playing any bar that will have them, then go back home—to a shitty house they share in a city that is not cost prohibitive—for two weeks to make as much money as they can doing any job they can get in order to pour it

This is one of those movies I'll just have to tell people I've seen cause I don't think I could actually sit through it.

I think the creators felt responsible for LeBlanc going out into the world on his own, sort of like how David Simon has helped out the uneducated street kids on The Wire.

Wow, you're exactly right. I remember watching that and wondering when the Farrellys had been hired. That scene might have been mildly funny on the right show, but on The Office it was tonally completely out of character.

Have to agree. Especially since now it just seems like they're coming up with new settings ("a pool party!") and/or contrived situations that seem to have their roots in a sitcom plots manual. Any sense of reality flew the coop long ago (I'd like to point to a specific "jumped the shark" moment but I'm too tired).

True, but that one had Greg Daniels in the mix. This sounds (at least at this point) like Lieberstein's baby.

@avclub-ef2357374bf1e93486f01db1c9edc6dd:disqus Good description, especially for a song like "Everywhere." Beautiful track. Why don't more TV shows have great rock bands do original songs?

What a cool story. I always wanted to live in that neighborhood. Now that I find out it was in NJ (I always assumed upstate NY) less so, but still exciting.

Disappointed Mark Mulcahy can't make it. Even if he was just solo, it would be great. Everyone should check out all the Miracle Legion albums (though almost all are out of print) and his solo albums. He's amazing. The Pete & Pete stuff is some of his best work, too.

I liked Puffy Chair and Cyrus. Love The League. Haven't seen The Freebie. Black Rock sounds pretty terrible, but Jeff Who Lives At Home looks promising. I guess I'll say—not so bad?

Awesome. Hope it works out. Looking forward to reading your thoughts.
