Funny, I actually do know Tommy…I took a class of his a couple of years ago at Ole Miss. Awesome class and awesome guy. I had heard that story about him driving to Montana, but never heard him tell it. Wish I had now. I was such a fan boy around him, though. I tried not to be, but really couldn't help it. I'm sure he

I actually haven't read much Bass outside of THE WATCH and a few select short stories. I think it's possible the guy is just a better short story writer than novelist. I think that's true for various other southern writers like Larry Brown (though his novels are still very good, nothing beats his short stories) and

I like the show a lot, and probably liked this episode more than you, but I do agree that this felt like a lot of set up and not a lot happened. Probably a side effect of writing a show that's essentially a 3 hour movie cut up into 6 episodes. Doesn't keep the energy nearly as well as something like Eastbound & Down.

I thought that was Paul from the Wonder Years. Might they be one in the same? This could be big news.

Re: Family Guy. I don't think WUWT would be very good stretched over 10 years and a few hundred episodes.

You're right, except for your tendency to blame it all on the writers. Usually, the main cast member in the skit is the writer/co-writer of the sketch, so they aren't blameless either.

My favorite random WUWT bit was Andy Samberg as John Stockton coming out and dribbling a basketball. So random and hilarious. The Ric Ocasek looking guy this week was pretty great.

Politics or Wiig most likely writing the sketch/conceiving the character (which probably consisted of her doing a Marilyn impression and then picking her butt and eating it).

Did it seem to anyone else like Hader actually WAS cracking up for once? Usually he does a very good job of the whole "No, I don't forgive you..ahhh fine, I forgive you!" as Buckingham, but this time it was more, "I don't for—just kidding, it's all hilarious!"

Get used to it, as Mattie says it a bunch in the novel. She keeps saying she's looking for someone with "true grit." Hence the title.

I think Your Highness may have been written years ago.

Agree it sucks. I always worry anytime anyone is taken out of the mix after they've made something great—it's like a key bandmember exiting after the classic debut album. Also, Best is a funny motherfucker as evidenced in Eastbound and Foot Fist Way. Would be easy to speculate in a million different directions, but I

Read the epic Vice Magazine article that came out yesterday. Sounds like there might have been a slight falling out with Best. Here's some choice quotes:
"When I broached the subject of Best's whereabouts with Hill, he hesitated. Ben's still in Charlotte working on music, he told me, and then made a polite cutting

Ben Best
Everyone should read Vice Magazine's set visit article. It's a whopping 7 pages but it's well worth the read and a great look behind the scenes. There's a small bit about Ben Best (co-writer/creator/"Clegg"/"Chuck the Truck") in there. It seems that he may have had a falling out of some kind with the other

It's hard to remember now, but the show wasn't all that popular when it was on. Ratings weren't great. It had an internet following, but I was maybe one of a handful of people I knew that was talking about it and quoting it at the time. Hill didn't seem all that sure about a second season during his press for O&R. But

It's funny, I always thought McBride was supposed to play Ronnie, but it turns out he was originally set to play Ray Liotta's character, but because of scheduling conflicts, couldn't do it. Agree with all the love for the movie. I'm glad to see most people around here like it. I remember during its release, it seemed

Even Chappelle and Weiner had/have writing staffs. There's a good description of Weiner's writing process in the Mad Men issue of Rolling Stone. He's very hands on, but he's not sitting at a computer banging out drafts. I think what say, McBride and Hill did, actually locking themselves in a room and typing it out in

I saw that guy in a movie on Comedy Central starring Dash Mihok and Brittany Daniel. It appeared to have been made for appx. $237. Not good. Not good at all.

Let's nuke 'em. And nuke REAL Patriot for trying way too hard while we're at it.
