You may be right; that would make more sense. (The dad did keep the money though.)

You're right. Of course. I had considered that she might try to use Roger-James for business purposes, but I hadn't considered that she might use him as a corpse. That makes perfect sense.

Our son read BLACK BEAUTY for school and enjoyed it, which is rare for him, so we got him a bunch of "books from the animal's point of view," but he didn't show much interest. We should pass them along to our daughter, though right now she's more into fantasy stuff.

I meant to mention ZITA, but couldn't find a good spot for it. It's also been on the bestseller lists a lot, though not in the past month (so far as I saw), so I reluctantly left it out of this piece. But I do recommend it.

Yes and no. Larson draws it as a winged horse with a human torso, but it doesn't look like a regular centaur.

Agreed.
Agreed.
I try not to over-think it. One thing about being a parent is that you know your kids better than anyone and can pretty well gauge what they're "ready" for. I have friends who show violent movies to their kids that I'd never dream of showing to mine, but I don't think they're doing anything wrong; they just know what…

There's a sexy scene in the fourth volume that's a little beyond what I would usually find acceptable for our 8-year-old daughter, but the books overall are perfect for her age and sensibility, so we decided she was mature enough to handle it. But yes, parents should be aware that it's not all pointy ears and questing.

It's not a *bad* reason to have to kids. One of the joys of being a parent for m has been rediscovering books, cartoons and games that I'd forgotten I loved.

We don't overindulge our kids, but we but them tons of books from the Scholastic flyer. My daughter likes to boast that she once got so many in an order that she had to bring them home in the box the class's entire shipment had come in.
