I think that's true of David's lesser songs (like this one!) but not overall. I also think their style of lyrics is dissimilar. On Bazan's better songs, the lyrics are spare but hint at a lot more than what's explicitly said. This article reminded me of a lesser-known personal favorite:

Rid of Me does not sound like shit. Nothing Albini has ever recorded sounds like shit. Quiet and slightly muddled, sure. That's a consequence of recording live. The drum mics pick up some of the guitar, etc. But that doesn't mean it sounds like shit. It's a great recording.
