I don't think that's Denby's point. I think that a critic can be a bit snarky in the current cultural and economic climate about a movie comes out about a rich white man in a privilaged position who's main problem is that he has sex with too many beautiful women. That's not necessarily denegrating to sex addiction,

Thank you, Yes. I was responding to the author's contention that it was made "abundantly clear" from Brandon's body language that we're supposed to believe that it's a normal thing for him, which to me means he's bisexual…Which the movie never suggests.

To refute any critic's differing opinion solely on the basis that they 'just don't understand addiction' is not only unfair (for all we know David Denby's mother is a bottle-a-day alcoholic) it's just shoddy criticism.

There seems to be no room in the "Golden Age of Television" for Breaking Bad, ever since Kelsey Grammar started talking about capitalism…or something.

AV Club Talking Covering Literature = Aintitcoolnews Covering  Politics.
After reading Kyle Ryan's insufferable Bukowski exploration, and a few other of these Gateway to Geekery articles (OMG, have you ever heard of Kurt Vonnegut????) I've pretty much come to the conclusion that there's no need for this site to stretch

You say you lump in Bukowski with Carver and Keuroac, "These are guys who'd scoff at the "tortured artist" archetype for being pretentious and overly intellectual …They'd wear hangovers like badges of honor and mistake misogyny for musedom. "

Raymond Carver
I'd be very interested to know what Carver you've read that gave you the impression that he was:

"Italian Street Tough" in Do The Right Thing?
I just re-watched this over the weekend and I'm pretty sure he played the racist son of a Pizzeria owner. Sure, he was Italian and a bit overbearing and threatening, but "street tough" makes it sounds like he was in a gang or running numbers for the mob.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ah, the vitirol
What was everyone expecting Sud to come out and say?

Rock and roll martian, I guess.

It's my club and I can splash the pot venever the fack I vant.

Not enough credit for Edie Falco in this review/thread
This to me, is her finest hour. Goddamn, I have never seen an actress change emotions on dime like she can. The places she goes in this episode are absolutely breath taking.

you got it!

Just saw Crash this weekend for the first time.
Found myself saying, "Man, I love History Of Violence and Eastern Promises, but I wish David Cronenberg would get back to weird, pervy shit."

Agreed. I can't stomach anyone who was "bored" by the Fly episode. BB has moments of sublime violence and badassery (Mike The Cleaner!), but that's not what this show is. It's icing on a delicious, nutritious, cake.

Fuck yeah, Dean Norris! I've been watching since Season One and this is simply the best evolution of a television show I've ever witnessed.

I for one liked Mike, he wore the shit out of that hat.

Lots of hate for The Killing
And I'm going to say I'm really shocked.

I wish they would've gone for Glomgold to direct, he would've kept the film on budget.
