It's not that. It's just that the show was so obviously trying to be "hip" that it was actually painful to watch.
I will say this about the show: It is better than The Following. So far.
You know, I had to look it up on IMDB because I knew I had seen her somewhere and could not figure out where. It was probably the long hair and lack of a British accent.
This is where, being Canadian, and having almost no knowledge of American history (and pretty much no interest in history in general) comes in handy.

I've started watching this show now that it's on Friday nights and there's nothing else. I thought it was kinda fun when I checked it out last season, but it conflicted with other things and I never sought it out after. It's too bad it will probably not last that much longer.
I didn't see April fitting in there at all, so I sort of bought why she wouldn't want to go. I think bubbly/peppy Laura probably turned April off right away. They're kind of opposite people.

And it sorta fits with the theme they seem to be doing this season, which is how Pawnee is kind of a horrible place with terrible people.

Look, was this episode perfect? Yes, because Eagleton sucks. Was it particularly funny? Yes, because Eagleton sucks. Am I just reusing a joke from the episode as a playful rebuttal to your opposite opinion? Yes, because Eagleton sucks.
This must be how people who like Big Bang Theory feel like ALL THE TIME.
I agree that the first season was not that good (not terribly bad either IMO, just kind of bland) and that it never lived up to its potential. But the series was still salvageable, and I think they may be doing that this season. It's still early, but I have more faith in it knowing that Ben Edlund is on board now. And…
