Um, you realize that the "meaningful death" line was a call-back to when the female Kryptonian said it to him when they had the stand-off in Smallville. She said it to him when he pulled out a knife to fight back.

I will say the 3rd act setpiece is pretty class. The rest of it is composed of some of the most baffling stuff I've ever seen in a summer family tentpole.
