Finally finished Bioshock:Infinite on Friday afternoon. It was an interesting ending, certainly very ambitious and I'm glad they went there with the concept…but I think there was a misdirect or two that made the end twist feel a little cheaper than it should have. I think it's a game, that regardless of its attempts

He ain't the only one.

I loved this episode, but then again my favorite Classic Who era were Seasons 13 and 14 where Tom Baker was more or less jumping into different movies every serial. This felt like Alien, but on a submarine. I am getting a bit tired of the "companion's method turns out better than The Doctor's at the end" trope though.

Yeah @avclub-1922cc1dc1286b56a2d99b7f1aa0630c:disqus is dead-on here. I'd also check out Spare Parts (which is a Fifth Doctor Audio and the origin of the Cybermen). In all, most anything with the Eighth Doctor is a favorite of mine.

Unfortunately, said lightheartedness also gives way to incredibly formulaic storytelling. The Nolan films, give or take the first one, definitely are not that.

I just wanna tell you how much I appreciate you keeping the baby at home. I was at Trance last night, and someone's child was screaming the entire time…granted I echoed that baby's feelings, but still…

I just found Avengers story to be so by the numbers, that's not to say it was bad…it had moments of real excitement, especially at the beginning, but I came away underwhelmed.

Compared to Iron Man? I don't even think it's close, but mainly because of how terrible and by committee that script was..it had like 3 writers, and 2 other story by credits….that's just messy. Asgard worked for me though generally.

Yep, Thor: God of Thunder was definitely my favorite book this week, even over HawkGUY and Snyder's Batman…and the slightly bizarro Mad Scientist tale that was Batman and Red Robin. It was a huge bounce-back after the fairly terrible Gorr origin issue.

I feel the same way, though I can't say I've actively enjoyed many of the films short of Captain America and the first Iron Man.

Yep, it's just like Avenue Q, except Avenue Q is entertaining. This was just a slog to get through and definitely the most laugh-free episode of Community this season, short of the awful Thanksgiving episode. Though I did enjoy the acid dropping joke during Abed's portion of the song. This season has been a real dog

Extended version, it gives Q'orianka Kilcher's portrayal more room to breathe.

@avclub-ec581d0fa82907dc6f58d1e70bf346b0:disqus Funny enough, I think its the worst episode of the run.

Beautiful visuals, total nonsense of a script, I wish Boyle had bothered to paint any kind of compelling motivations on his characters. That finale and the pubic hair scenes were both laughably bad.

It's a shame nobody bothered to edit RTD.

Yes, this exactly. It's amazing how little the ramifications of time travel have played a role in a series whose basis is centered around it. It's why I appreciate the Moffat era as much as I do, though I wish he'd go even further and dump guys like Chibnall and Whithouse who keep telling stories in the RTD tradition.

I'd argue that RTD's plot resolutions were so bad trite though that it often undid any of the good work that occasionally popped up in his run. Take for instance the end of the Master storyline…horrid.
Sure Moffat often hits that trap too…but it seems downright subtle compared to what Davies would pull.

I was in your position a few years ago (around 2008ish) and I tried to dig into the First season of the new series. I thought it had nice imagination, but the writing was too clunky for my taste, and the shooting style didn't quite do it for me. I gave up until the Matt Smith years, and that's when I got hooked in.

I'll only be happy when Doctor Who returns to its former status as a proto-Wishbone visiting various historical periods and teaching English lads and lassies all about the Aztecs and Marco Polo! or space Jesus! One of the two.
