'Now I work down at the carwash,
Where all it ever does is rain.'

My parents met her at some function in the 90s. My mother, being interested in an unthinking way, shook hands. My dad, being an ardent socialist, leant against a wall and looked upon the scene.

We can but hope - he turns 40 a week tomorrow, so this may've been the dash of cold water in the face he needs.

Saw him live in 97, and he came on stage shaving - or pretending to shave, it didn't matter - his moustache off. We were all on his side from that moment. A top 5 concert, that one.

Suddenly, Sept 3 seems an age away, the time between riven by feverish dreams.

Oh, thanks for asking, good of you to've remembered.

I'm not sure how easy it is to find nowadays. I got it years ago, by, er, dubious downloading methods, on an 'unofficial' collection called 'A Female Tribute To Tom Waits', which needs no explaining. It starts unpromisingly, with rain sound effects, but develops into something really powerful.

Liked for 'suspected' rather than 'expected'.

Anybody else really like Megan Mullally's version of Ruby's Arms?

A - D - E = Ride It On, Mazzy Star. First thing I ever played.

Reconsider, baby.

I'll stick with it for one more week, I think, then see.

I think I read that Bruce Springsteen was listening to The Raspberries when he was writing some of the upbeat rock songs on The River (Cadillac Ranch, Crush On You, etc). Since this is my favourite album, I always meant to check them out, so thanks for the reminder.

He's doing warm-ups for the 3rd TV series in Edinburgh this August. Tickets might be hard to come by. Saw him there a couple of years ago, doing warm-ups for Carpet Remnant World, and he's fantastic in a tiny venue.
(Edinburgh in August is like the rest of the UK in November, though.)

I was referring more to the wigs and glasses and ostensibly silly things like that happening in real life.
Our newspapers in the UK were full of glee the other week over an American 'spy' caught in Russia with a terrible blond wig and probably a Groucho 'tache-and-glasses.
That stuff could be made to work, but they

'Artist' is the right word.
He's also a brilliant interviewee, if you can find any on YouTube (sorry, I don't know how to link to things). Incredibly intelligent and articulate even off-stage.

Daniel Kitson is highly revered, and by other comedians too, including Stewart Lee. Haven't seen him myself, but he'd be worth the price of a ticket just to see.
