I knew a girl who insisted she hated Dylan's voice, until I suggested to her that he caresses the words as he sings them. That and getting her to listen to 'If You See Her, Say Hello' made her a rabid fan in about four and a half minutes. My proudest moment.

As well as the 4 year gap between series, each episode is a slightly different length. They usually run between 30 and 40 minutes. The BBC was much looser in the 70s.

I don't find their work similar, no, but I think they are kind of lumped together in the broad public perception - including me. Whenever I see a new film by one of them has been released, I automatically wonder what the other's doing.

I always wonder if Ken Loach and Mike Leigh are ultra-polite to each other at parties, and then keep out of each other's way apart from the occasional evaluating glance.

We all agree on Leisure, at least.
