Letterman literally reinvented the concept of late night television when he started. Most of Leno's high profile bits were stolen from Letterman. Colbert is great, but there's a legitimate discussion comparing Colbert and early Letterman.

I wouldn't be surprised if he pushed for more of that. You obviously need the Tom Cruises and the Jennifer Lawrence's to draw people in, but he'll almost certainly have some discretion on the second guest.
I actually like Pete Holmes' new take on the monologue. Just an extended riff on a concept, rather than a list of topical one-liners. It really captures the "stand up trying out new material" vibe, which can be really fun an exciting.
The problem with Letterman's spot is that is was too high profile to give to anyone but a middle aged white guy - no-one else has the requisite experience. It would be nice if this open 11:30 spot went to a member of an unrepresented group. Comedy Central has been doing a great job of putting younger comedic talent in…
Your amusements are your own, I will not chide you on that count, but you must be more discreet.

"Mance's army numbers a hundred thousand men! They have giants! And universal health care!"
War turns innocent children into murdering sociopaths! This exact thing is happening in Somalia right now! Huzzah!
I laughed like a maniac on the cut from that statue to the real Joeffery posing in the exact same way.
I'm a straight male, and I got irrationally angry that we didn't see that male prostitute's junk. They just throw female anatomy around like it's nothing, but that's too far? Come on HBO.
Basic-cable watching America demands bland comedy at that timeslot, and who better to deliver it than Chris Hardwick?

Check out the ratings on Walking Dead, they're off the charts for cable.
Assuming Conan is committed to TBS (and after all the shit he's been through, I don't think he'd leave them in the dust) then we should all prepare for the inevitability of the Late Show with Chris Hardwick. He's the only person I can think of who's got the right experience, but isn't too niche.
It was probably my favorite scene in the episode. Alicia is generally so careful around her children, but she just was having none of it. And it wasn't even in anger, it was cold and calculated. She was going into lawyer mode on her daughter's belief in religion. It all felt very cruel and very honest.
To this day, I insist the perfect ending to Harry Potter would have been Neville standing up to Voldemort and fulfilling Harry's prophecy, leaving himself the hero and Harry in the initially uncomfortable position of no longer being in the spotlight.
If I had to pick one scene that I remember most vividly from all of Louie, it's probably that whole subway sequence. Followed closely by him yelling at Letterman's office building.
"Or what? You'll release the dogs? Or the bees? Or the dogs with bees in their mouth, and when they bark they shoot bees?"
I like Martha as a companion, but the more I think about it, I think I just like Freema Agyemon playing a smart medical student. I have a hard time naming specific things about her character I like, other than her intelligence and self-respect ("the bones of the hand," etc.).
