No joke. This is was the best episode of the series. Though I admit when something equally horrific happened in the comic around this time (vague to avoid spoilers), I did slam the book down and say "what's the point of all this?" in a somewhat aggrieved way. I think that's what's going on here with the AV writer. A

The show's done an excellent job making Deb say all the uncomfortable, challenging things to Dex that the audience could think of…except one. It's beyond the pale that Deb hasn't point-blank asked Dexter what happened to Doakes. She should at least very strongly suspect that Dexter killed him. And if she were to ask,

I think he meant the part about Ryan getting caught lying about his marathon running time was the stale part.

Kate McKinnon is hot on his heels.

I thought the Tech Talk skit was fantastic, the best of the night. And there were huge laughs throughout, not just when the concept was revealed. The VP date skit was decent, everything else was very weak.

I completely agree with you. I've actually seen studies that say adopted children who look for their bio families will sometimes have affairs with their half-siblings, because they feel an emotional closeness to them without growing up with them, which is what creates the taboo. Given that James Remar was having an affair with Dexter's bio mom, I always thought it was at least strongly implied (if not stated outright) that Dexter was his son.

@avclub-a58fdc4e008c823e6a40f2d66955ec16:disqus My point is that Dexter doesn't just go around casually killing non-killers so it's pretty strange and completely unprecedented for Dexter to casually attempt to kill Louis.

Dexter thought the guy from Season 4 was a killer when he killed him. And in S5, he lost control, grieving Rita's death and killed the guy on the dock. It was a very big deal, his only kill of a non-killer and an indication of how unmoored he was after Rita.  Those are the only two times he's ever killed a non-killer

Hmm, maybe so. That certainly seems better.
