In Roger's mild defense, Pete totally misrepresented the conversation between he and Joan, making it seem like she was semi-interested already. I do think it was weird that Roger and Joan didn't have a scene together at all this episode though, come to think of it.

Guess we have different definitions. Everything you mentioned was place setting for later stuff or, in some cases, like Walt blowing up the car, or the fistfight with Mike, were just interesting and fun character moments that had zero to do with the plot.

Seems like a very slow show to me. Take a look at any first half of a season (other than one). There's very little forward momentum. Not that this is a complaint, mind you. I very much like that about the show. It's careful and deliberate, never boring. And it makes the exciting scenes all that much more exciting.
