I can only speculate that they panicked and showed "Skins" as Ep. 2 because of slow ratings on the Pilot. "Skins" shows Kennex and Dorian at a later date, when their repartee is in swing. Thank you for that check-in with canon. I'm willing to go along with the shooting outcome, but I think even Sherlock, who is without empathy, would feel shock at taking a life—even that of the heinous Magnussen—no matter that his mind tells him it's necessary.
