Loud. BAM!
1. DEGIAL - DEATH'S STRIKING WINGS. Death metal the way (I think) it ought to be played: morbid, rabid, completely frantic and over the top with a certain resonance throughout of its original thrash metal influences. Best album of 2012 and one of my favorites of the last five years. Any "Altars of…

Atmospheric black metal and post-hardcore are acceptable metal to people that aren't really into metal (or at least, people who came to it through a personal aesthetic shaped largely by college/indie rock). It is what it is.

My all-time favorite Buffy episode, right there. The meta-joking about a stock Buffy-saves-the-world plot kills me, and Xander's arc in the episode is kind of touching for such a funny, light episode.

No way. His primary narrative function was equivalent to Brother Sam's: teach Dexter an important life lesson on his journey to becoming A Real Boy. The rest of the plot - where he was a combination Doakes/every-big-bad-ever - was ultimately a misdirect with no payoff.

Isaak was ultimately this season's Brother Sam But With Killin', which is… yeah, kind of fucking dumb.

That's what would have happened on "Breaking Bad." The "Dexter" writers can't seem to remember from one scene to the next what just happened, or what their main character's mental state ought to be.
