oh man
Reading this hurt my brain. It was like reading Rorschach's movie journal or something.

Goddam I love Kathryn Bigelow
The lady makes action movies that a lot of thought have obviously gone into, and yeah Strange Days has MULTIPLE problems, but overall is pretty fuckin cool.

Little SCARS. For fuck sake.

Oh, Burn Notice, why won't you be my wife?
I was surprised how much I missed this show. By the time the title card popped up, I was in full dork-out mode.

And now we get into Espenson Country
Aside from old J-Dub himself, Jane Espenson is probably my favourite Mutant Enemy writer. Marti Noxon is maybe neck in neck, before things got all dark and run-by-her. Although yes, sometimes Espenson'll sacrifice character or coherence for a dorky joke…normally the damage is

On the plus side: It's no RUSSIAN ARK.

I'll fuckin take caruso over the other bullshit running gags on here, any day.

definitely not gonna happen since the show came into being through Dushku's development deal with Fox. In terms of the money trail on this one there would have been no Dollhouse without Dushku.

I think they're starting to figure out how best to use her. And it's already leaning towards ensemble anyway.

magnus: Whedon tends to mostly stick to canon, but will play it fast and loose when it suits the show. Which, generally, I have no problem with…so he may wriggle out of that yet.

@skirkster: okay, I can get behind "live in a fire"

oh, Merk, nothing about you is exciting!

I couldn't say. I don't know the man.

Yeah, sorry, my therapist knows how to spell "an" and/or proofread. Also my therapist is a gun.

Oh my god.
There's nothing that drives me crazier than a bunch of artists trying to turn what they do into Magic. Like it's a tricky enough job already - not hard in the same way being a coal miner is hard, but it has its own challenges, if you actually wanna be good at it - without turning it into some mysitical

Half or two fifths of an episode, these days.

it's just that my persuasive argumentationism made him come around, I'm sure.

oh come on guys, you already have a thread to do this in, this one was going so well!

I think "wannabe" would be more accurate than "rip-off". But emulation is not plagiarism. As I said I'm not defending the originality of Fringe, it undeniably emulates X-Files (as well as police procedurals and maybe slivers of the Whedonverse), but it doesn't lift the mythology and character dynamics of X-Files

Yay!
I for one am very happy about this. It's not the best show out there, but it's improved like crazy for the last two thirds of the season, and it's become pretty damn compelling, and found its groove.
