I say, so what? I've seen stroke acting before. It's nothing that hasn't been accomplished just as well in other movies. Riva has no real character here. I don't know that Lawrence should have won the Oscar, but I do think she created a more interesting character.

It's true, cinematically it's nothing mindblowing. But it's a good story. I find its moral lessons compelling, not didactic. Holy Motors seems like it should be the best, but, to me, it's just such a hodgepodge that it doesn't really work as much besides weird for the sake of weird. I loved the director's first three

"Complex" may not be the best word, but I think his films are in general extremely challenging and emotionally jarring. You might be right, though, a film like The Seventh Continent is pretty straightforward and could be described in a single sentence easily enough.

I'd have given it to The Hunt myself. There was nothing super great this year, no masterpieces, at least that I've seen. I like plenty of them, though. You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet is pretty terrible, IMO. I might like it less than even The Paperboy, which was, indeed, horrible.

Mostly agree. Honestly, I do not see what the big deal about Riva was. She did nothing special. Trintignant did all the heavy lifting, and even Huppert seemed to have more to do. People shouldn't be winning awards for dying in a bed.

The last time I saw Low at a music festival, they purposely threw the set apparently on some kind of protest on Obama's drone policy.

That she'd let Gil come into the bathroom when she was naked in the bath is pretty creepy. I hope she lands something good after this. I love looking at her and she's actually pretty funny.

He had to make room for that Wright Brothers biography!

We have mixed feelings about that.

I think their music is pretty brilliant. My only concern is that Monica Martin has been pretty drunk both times I've seen them play. I hope that's not too much of a habit, because that could lead to huge troubles down the road.

This song came out my freshman year of college. After my sophomore year of college, I moved from the dorm into a house off campus. Right across the street there was a playground - Marcy Playground. I was convinced for about a decade that they were a local band, but apparently they formed in New York City. The lead

He has the worst sangria mouth I've ever seen on a non-Spaniard!

GAY PANIC!

Saw Dr. Dog on Friday night. I was really there for the openers, Phox, whom I had seen once before and whom I deeply love. I had bought one Dr. Dog CD beforehand just to familiarize myself with them. I like them. My partner and I decided to leave a bit early, but they were a lot of fun to watch.

Pretty sure I watched it stolen from the internet, so, yeah, exactly.

I pay way too much attention to that kind of stuff, so I knew they had shelfed it at some point, even if I couldn't remember what it was called.

Yes, I saw it further down in the thread. Pretty amazing coincidence.

I can see them doing the episode before Birdman (it would have had to be done before that movie premiered), but I would guess the score was done after that movie came out.

You're right, but by the time he got to RIPD it was schtick, and it was still a lot of fun. It's basically Rooster Cogburn as an afterlife detective or whatever the fuck it was they were. I never even saw Crazy Heart. I usually make it a point to see all the Oscar nominees in the big eight categories, but that year,
