That's the beauty of fiction.  All we know is what we've been told and what we've seen.  The world does not continue after the last frame.  Jesse will be continually crying/laughing in catharsis as he speeds the fuck away from everything and everyone that wronged him.  He is free.

The box story actually happened, but the scene in the finale was imagined.

On a related note, I'm really not cool with the fact that living on the west coast means my broadcast is delayed three hours.  I have to deal with the fact that millions of people will know the ending before I do.
