'Golden Gun' never really makes a good excuse for why Scaramanga doesn't just kill him during the many, many opportunities that he has the drop on him, though.

Again, this was deliberate.  The Broccolis thought they had gone too far into camp with FYEO's immediate predecessor, Moonraker.  (They had.)  They deliberately wanted to craft a movie where Bond is obliged to rely on his wits rather than gadgets.  Personally, I love the FYEO sequence where Bond and Melina Havelock

That car thing was deliberate, in such that the car comes from TWINE's immediate predecessor, Tomorrow Never Dies.  TND has an extensive stunt sequence with the car, so the car getting cut in half in TWINE is to baffle audience expectations that they'll see the same car stuff that TND had.

I'm kind of sad that none of the movies so far has had the Garden of Death from the book.  Now that the Roger Moore-era is over, I kind of doubt that we'll ever actually see the Garden of Death.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to give it to Donald Pleasance.  Savalas did a fine job in OHMSS, but Pleasance is the one everyone remembers for a reason; the fifteen minutes or so that he's in that movie are unforgettable.  The man just oozes menace.

I entirely agree.  A View to a Kill is a Christopher Walken movie that has James Bond in it.

Fair enough.  I must have forgotten that part.  I remember him having amnesia and waking up in the Japanese village, but I guess that happens at the end of the book rather than the middle.  So it's a fair cop, I guess.

It is a great swordfight, but I think that's the exact scene where a movie that had been pretty decent up to that point goes to hell and stays there.

The one you remember is Moonraker.  That was the pre-credits sequence.
