@avclub-77b4256b06873e148ee566d00acda135:disqus  Well, I think a good deal of that is that this show, to a much greater extent than TNG, addresses the world as it is vs. how Gene Roddenberry would like it to be.  The family was, is, and (hopefully) will remain the base unit of society.

The one piece of evidence in the contrary was RJS' amazing turnaround during the RJS/Vreenah rivalry last season.  I think Vreenah was particularly impressed and thrown off his game by RJS ability to seemingly instantaneously respond.

In the TNG episode 'The Host', it's strongly implied that the worm completely takes over the host's personality.  The Trill were pretty clearly retconned for DS9.  As another example, they lost their bumpy foreheads and gained the spots.

My single favorite moment of the series, hands down.

I kind of like that the film posits the question of whether Cole is insane and imagining all this, and then definitively answers the question in the negative.  Not many movies could pull that kind of thing off.

Not so.  Brad Pitt was already a huge actor, but making a name for himself as a teeny-bopper pretty boy.  Like an above commenter, this was the movie that convinced me that the guy could actually act, rather than play at acting.

It was the episode with the land of the jockeys that did it for me.  I remember watching it and thinking 'I don't recognize this show.'

I very much enjoyed 'I love the '80s', as I'm a sucker for '80s nostalgia.  I watched two episodes of 'I love the '90s', before realizing that I don't actually miss that decade very much.

Furthermore, the guy who hired Pan to mow his lawn would have been fine and enjoyed a freshly mowed lawn if he hadn't deliberately gotten in Pan's way and been eaten.  'The Lawnmower Man' is a pretty strong example of an Idiot Plot.

I remember thinking that of 'The Shadow', starring Alec Baldwin.  Still, since I was a high school student, at the time I thought the interesting CGI was enough to save the film.
