Well, yeah, but the 90's are also the peak of the Vertigo line, and when the indie scene really explodes.

I'm realizing how few De Palma films I've actually seen. Uh… I haven't even seen most of Carrie. I did see Raising Cain, though!
Fair enough. Just be prepared for a lot of Aw Shucks! cheesiness, but it sounds like that would be fine for you.
Hmmm… that deer shot is actually very thirdsy, isn't it? The ground covers almost exactly a third of the vertical distance. It would seem to be something that would work when the camera is static relative to the background, but less so when it's moving (as you said).
Nope.
Honestly unless you're genuinely interested in the history of comics, you're probably better off starting with later stuff. I'm sure someone will beat me up for saying this, but there's very little published before…oh, about 1980… that doesn't feel really kitschy and corny (at least from mainstream comics, there were…
I predict Mike is going to get shit on for this review by some De Palma fanboys, but I have to say I'm pretty much in agreement. Never seen a film by him that wasn't kind of stupid at its core, and I don't care enough about the formal details of shots to be that excited by his good stuff.
Think I'm going to like this feature, as I'm pretty ignorant of most of this stuff. Well-written and clear. Welcome aboard!
@avclub-056945282aefc5594a25496233390030:disqus I actually can't get your dooos to work at all. We must be thinking of different bits.
Friends…none.
And he's a total liar, because he doesn't end up going in that direction.
DOOO DOOO

Yeah ok I watched that and… what the hell? That's pretty frigging cool.
I have never watched this show, but I've watched this over and over and over again because seriously holy shit this is awesome.
Holy shit there are a lot of syllables in your post. Can you remove some?
Still Standing is pretty damn good, probably has their best straight-up songs, although it's not as good an album as Soul Food in many ways. But basically I end up paying attention to Cee-Lo about 50% more than the other three combined.
@avclub-1e850f6bef0bc36ca1f64e95ff1cbd2e:disqus is stealing my thoughts!
I've heard Martin Scorcese likes it.
Pretty sure the focus was more on the "vitriol" and less on the "you're a die-hard racist", because, you know, she never said that.
Listen to Southern Rock Opera by Drive By Truckers a few times and it explains it all.
