a vote for the other film here - it's magnificent, one of twelve films from this decade i'd hand a ****1/2 if i was more diligent w/ my letterboxd. Force Majeure is pretty ok tho, new one sounds neat, even if Blake Williams over @ Filmmaker Mag was decidedly less taken.

if you're lamenting the loss of the column, allow me to recommend Mike's Letterboxd! similarly detail-oriented and pleasingly conversational, if (obviously) not as singularly granular.
also probably healthy for you dorks who consider C+ gags the height of hilarity to check out a legit tough grader.

nice to see David still reppin' Julien Baker. was casually making my way through Sprained Ankle after it popped up on the Best Of list, was enjoying it, liked Something quite a bit, then she stepped up and belted the back half of Rejoice and it obliterated me.

awesome. i hope they blow this boys and girls tour out big next year so i get a chance to see 'em.

2014 release. It's quite a lovely, despairing game.

A24 is distributing in the US in early 2016.

That teaser, which I'm pretty sure was sometime 2014 but am far too lazy to verify, was so goddamn good. That knockout match cut w/ the police station/wheat fields contrast? Shit, Tomorrowland was a real bummer you guys.

There isn't a single piece of memorable imagery in that entire trailer. There is absolutely no excuse for movies of this budget and scale to continually look like bad TV. I don't wanna disparage anyone who's still excited for these things based upon character dynamics - fuck, I envy you, because I like spectacle, I

If you nab yourself a PS4, you've got The Last of Us, it's terrific DLC, Bloodborne, Journey, Rocket League, Witcher 3, and come early January Gone Home, just to name a handful of diverse, largely terrific games that represent the spread of creativity we've got in the medium these days.

Left Behind has a lovely friendship between teenage girls, and makes me yearn for a 3 or so hour bit of contained content from every AAA dev studio, just to see what they might cook up w/out the restraints and compromises a full priced product entails. Not that The Last of Us proper wasn't damn impressive in parts,

I live within an hour of San Francisco, and I swear to Christ it never came w/in 200 goddamn miles of me. That said, it's a 4.99 rental on Amazon and iTunes right now……

Alternately you could take a scant minute to find the article on this very site, published at the same moment as this one, which transparently discusses the process in which this list was assembled. Then again, this is such a silly accusation, and your inability to grasp that folks may very much like things, just not

That's very silly and confusing and arbitrary, and makes even less sense for critics who first see many films at festivals before they secure distribution, but hey, you do you I guess.

The most beguiling dudebro douche genius super scientist there ever was. Goddamn is he delightful in that thing.

You could extol the myriad virtues of Mistress America because it seems to really need it. For real though, can me, you, Jesse, and fuck I dunno……I guess David Ehrlich start a Mistress America Is Noah Baumbach's Best Movie Club? It'll be super cool and exclusive on account of everyone else breaking my heart by not

Since we seem to be doin' this, my entirely unsolicited Top 20, primed for your viewing pleasure/derision:
20. Jauja
19. Macbeth
18. Clouds Of Sils Maria
17. Tangerine
16. Girlhood
15. Phoenix
14. Hard To Be A God
13. Victoria
12. Heaven Knows What
11. Gabriel
10. Breathe
9. The Mend
8. Look Of Silence
7. Pigeon/Branch/Existence
6.

Love the Mistress America and Breathe shout outs, both of which would make my Top 10 at this point. Also figured I'd give Nayman's terrifically written Sicario takedown on Reverse Shot a shoutout even though he is, of course, entirely mistaken, as well as highlight D'Angelo's Letterboxd rebuttals.

I'll refer you to David Ehrlich's kinetically edited Top 25 of the year if that's what you're after.

Apologies for the atrocious grammar and sentence structure, my phone exits out of the comment box every time I touch the screen.

Think it might be mine as well. This is perhaps a factor of my being 23 and somewhat directionless, but I can't wrap my head around those calling this an airy trifle above all else. It impactfully interrogated that messy joyful business of discovering/coming to terms with who the fuck you are, and did so with an
