Since Vim recommended Young Liars, let me just second that recommendation. I am the most vocal supporter of Young Liars you will meet. The twelfth issue just wrapped a few weeks ago and it was fucking awesome.
If you liked Pax Romana (the one about the Vatican time-traveling), you ought to check out The Nightly News, which was Hickman (the writer/artist) first break into indie comics. The trade is only like 15 bucks and pretty awesome at that.

Let's hear it for Millar and Hitch's treatment of superheroes in the 21st century. The Ultimates is without a doubt one of the best superhero comics of the past decade. Vol. 1 & 2, that is.

Talking Heads
This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) has got to be the best song on that list. Noel, you got that shit right.
Ellis and Hitch's Authority is inferior to Millar and Quitely's. Ellis' writing is like some sub-par hack trying to ape Ellis' writing on Planetary. Millar and Quitely, however, make the Authority the perverse superhero comic it should've been in the first place.
