Saw it last night. I thought the unwieldy opening hour was saved by a brilliant final hour. It was classic Nolan: exposition dump early, then pay it all off spectacularly by the end with a few twists along the way. For all Nolan's super-seriousness, he's great at juggling multiple plot points and layering tension on.

These episodes finally aired in Australia last night. Unfortunately they aired them out of order. Chang's First Dynasty came first, then Finality, then Estate Planning last. It didn't really make sense and it's not clear why they did it this way (actually, a quick look at the wikipedia page shows that Digital Estate

I just mentioned this in a separate comment, but one of the best uses of narration i've seen recently is in The Informant!

Yes. And the classic one eyebrow "huh!?" expression immortalised in every anthropomorphic Dreamworks movie ever.

I got that vibe too. I think that's why I was so disappointed it didn't succeed. John Carter has problems, but many movies that are significantly worse with way less ambition and passion behind them make gazillions while this one not only bombed, but seemed to bomb to the delight of a lot of people.
