Verdi Cries by Nathalie Merchant. Or maybe He's On The Beach by Kirstie Maccoll. Guess I like beaches, both the melancholy and celebratory kinds.

[SPOILERS, KINDA, I GUESS] I thought the point (and the main difference from most other books on alternate realities) is that none of the other worlds have evolved human life. The reason our Earth is crowded with hominids is because we are a 'disabled' strain, such that most of us need a tool to step.

Yeah, but the sniper was a long way away, so could have been fooled by a body wearing the right clothes. Watson ran right up to him and took his pulse, so might have needed some extra befuddlement.

Squee!! [sorry.]
It's also pretty similar to the torture procedure in 1984, although in that case the rat cage is attached to the face, and I don't recall heat being involved.
Thirding (or whatever) the idea that ESL teaching might be a good way to go. I did that for 9 months in Japan way back when, and although it wasn't a long-term solution for me, it was fun and adventurous and led on to better things. Also, it gives you lots of raw material for writing!
Watch it first, for its awesomeness, but recognize that it is an unusual episode, in that the Doctor is barely in it. Then Eleventh Hour and all Matt Smith seasons, then backtrack to the beginning of Nu Who.
Um, you do know that the alien characters are played by human actors, right? That option hasn't been ruled out.
God, I love that movie, although I can't quite justify my affection for it.
Man, "Free To Be You And Me". I loved that stuff.
@avclub-6f518c31f6baa365f55c38d11cc349d1:disqus, you just made that happen. Damn you.
Just confirming that the Tennant/Stewart Hamlet is excellent, and that you can watch it (legally!) here: http://video.pbs.org/video/…
For an embarrassingly long time, I thought "the Netherlands" referred to the area at a border, after you've passed the first country's emigration, and before you've got to the second country's immigration.
There's a Tim's in Dubai, astonishingly.
The Doctor is an interesting case. I think I can honestly say I have a crush (nurtured since my teens) on the character, no matter which actor is in the role.
