I haven't met him personally, but I've got friends who were really into his spoken word stuff and saw him many times in the 90s and spoke to him afterwards more than once.  They said he was always very cool and accommodating.

I was fortunate enough to see Black Flag on their last tour way back when, and Ginn's instrumental project Gone opened, and they were actually pretty good.  He's a good guitar player.  But yeah, this kind of thing just sucks.
