…and at this point the only one other one that seems to be running at all is the one with Parkinson's.

After a week or so, things will level out and we'll be able to see if this is really a bad thing or merely a thing. Right now, people are probably just venting.

The problem is you never know if the downvoters are batshit crazy or merely uninteresting.

@TheMogul:disqus email addresses on a publicly available page is a horrible idea… If you're going to do it you should at least hide the info from machines.

Roseanne, if you count it (obviously ignoring the last season), was on ABC and is the closest to an exception that proves the rule.  Early Fox had a slew of 'edgy' shows (In Living Color, Martin, Married…) that filled the gaps left by the big three.
Fox ended up with the (sometimes deserved/sometimes not) reputation

My Name is Earl-30 Rock-The Office-Scrubs
Your mileage is going to vary on what is good (Wings, for instance, makes a surprisingly large number of Top Sitcoms of All Time lists).  But NBC's Thursday Comedy Block has a surprisingly good track record until Friends -some show nobody watches- Sienfeld - some show nobody

True.
My point was that ABC was slightly more watched than the DuMont back in the three networks days.  NBC picked up the 'incompetence' tag in the seventies (I think. It's been at least tv viewing life). They're both the kinds of reputations that are based on 'once you see it, it's always there'.  ABC does still have

@avclub-732f4bddc863c769ab0686364f114b8b:disqus not really, no. It's really early to tell but the show is incredibly bland, donate to the Michael J Fox foundation instead.

NBC's reputation for incompetence goes waaaay back.  Most people have forgotten why it got that.  But it's stuck being perceived that way and can never get past this reputation.  @avclub-de9878e9d33c60263a094abc94fab3f0:disqus is right though.  ABC would have the reputation of being the worst of the big three, if

TBBT gets fairly substantial ratings in the key demo.  It's working its way to being the new Friends. I really don't understand this. I would think that it would be too out there (or not bland enough) for Friends' numbers. And it doesn't seem to be much of a water cooler show.
Maybe it's stitching together an audience

What @avclub-ef062084a1c4a3584af1d4f8e514ea50:disqus said.  I like comment threads better than forums.

In all seriousness, a lot of people lurk on comment threads and don't like actually commenting. Having a (non-anonymous) downvote doubles their ability to interact.  But, it's really only something I could get behind if there were more than two options.
Speaking of things that would be good, but aren't going to

At least there doesn't seem to be any penalty for being downvoted.  (but yeah, downvotes + anonymity = horrible idea)

I really don't like the lack of boxes.  This seems like it should be something that the AV Club could change through CSS (or the like).

He was arraigned and plead guilty.

I wouldn't bring it up cause of what @stepped_pyramids:disqus said.  But he would have to stay away from certain topics.  Woody Allen, for instance, I've never really liked but after I heard about the Soon-Yi thing, I never ever want to hear him make a sex joke.

@avclub-45ef3d6b4c379e04803fa271c035e844:disqus I don't think that anybody has said you shouldn't watch his films.  So far (I haven't read below) people seem to be saying that it's fine to watch his films but if you want to discuss them, the whole child rape thing is going to be brought up… a lot.
Personally, I think

@avclub-21260e960c42f13c051d7d2caa49748d:disqus I should have been more specific.  I meant it wasn't going to beat Forest Gump (or Shawshank) for best picture (because @avclub-e57f718840a576abbb40a7d046c4e3b0:disqus's post was about Forest Gump robbing Shawshank/Pulp Fiction).

My desire to watch the fire show makes me think this show might be too action packed for my tastes.
