Years ago I used to knock back at least 3 beers a night and (surprise, surprise) I got really god damn fat. I've lost nearly 50 lbs since I cut out the weekday beer (along with some other minor lifestyle changes, but the beer was the biggest difference).

I'm gonna let you in on my secret chili ingredients – a big scoop of cocoa powder and a can of (drained) crushed pineapple. I've tried it with one or the other and it was kind of shitty, but the two things together are fucking magic.

I'm sure most of the foodies around here already know how to do this, but I just recently discovered the trick to peeling roasted red peppers – blacken them, then immediately place them in a big bowl and cover with plastic wrap to capture the condensation while they cool. The skin will come right off!

@avclub-f073b3649cb725798cf7bde9a1f8facb:disqus  That sounds just disgusting enough to be fucking awesome. Next time I'm drunkenly foraging for food I'll hit up the Halilfax Donair shop.

Yeah, I have that same wakefulness after 5 am problem when I drink, which is one of the reasons I rarely overindulge any more.
For the most part, I save my drinking for the weekends now although I'll have the odd glass of wine with dinner during the week (if it's something that really begs for the accompaniment).

Nickel Brook brewery in Burlington, Ontario makes an apple lager… any chance that was it? I've only had it  once (it was part of a sample pack) but it was much better than I expected it to be.

I'm a guy and I dress pretty conservatively (I mean, I work in an office so it's mostly polos/button downs and khakis) so I'm probably in way over my head talking about fashion, but I agree about that ever-shrinking middle ground being the way to go.
That's a tough line to walk though… sometimes the mid-priced stuff is

I thought you were cool, Clam.
I thought. You. Were. Cool.

OK, so I've only ever had donair from 7-11 (in my defence, I was really drunk, broke and desperate for food at 3 am in a suburban wasteland where it was the only place open) or from a Mediterranean place, but I recently noticed that there's a place called Halifax Donair near where I live (which I thought was kind of

My wife makes an awesome cabbage soup with a tomato base and hot sausage and rice – it's basically cabbage rolls in soup form (and much easier than dicking around with trying to roll up the cabbage leaves). Unfortunately, she doesn't really use recipes so the best I can tell you is to put all the things I mentioned
