I'm not a huge fan (I think I only ever bought their first one and The Colour and The Shape) but I kind of see Dave Grohl as this generation's Tom Petty – talented, affable dude who writes solid, workmanlike rock music and occasionally hits one out of the park.

I'm actually curious to hear that second album again since I keep thinking it can't be as bad as I remember but I'm pretty sure it's lost to the sands of time (and/or I traded it in for a couple of bucks).
In fact, I don't think I ever bothered to rip Set Your Goals before packing up all my CDs so I should really dig

I just heard their cover of Battle of Evermore on the radio the other day and it reminded me that i think I like that version better than the original.

I honestly think I listened to it once and put it aside never to be heard again (which was a pretty big deal in the pre-MP3 era, when any

I think I've told this story before, but a friend of mine who's even less aware of modern popular music than I am (I think the most recent album he owns is Never Mind the Bollocks) was once showing some visiting-from-Australia colleagues around Toronto and took them to its most famous strip club, The Brass Rail.
