I absolutely agree Dr. Zoidberg. Even my father, an upper-middle class white man, had to vote for Obama these past two elections because the tea party has co-opted the republican platform and he detests it. Myself, I am a fan of the Eisenhower presidency which was moderate on social issues and foreign policy and

No, the number of women isn't changing, but I'm thinking the majority of republican voting women is shrinking drastically because that demographic tends to be older. It's anecdotal, I know, but the vast majority of college or post-college aged women I know are very socially liberal and so have next to no connection

DannyBoyB, I don't see that as a solution for the Republicans though, because a lot of these tea party candidates are quite young. if thy continue down this path they could marginalize the republican party before they ever get the chance to fix it.

The problem for the GOP is that the loud ultra-cons control most of the conservative information streams and dominate the primaries. The moderates need to become louder to drown out the others or else we're going to see an even louder tea party-type situation.

The sad thing is the GOP will take this as a sign that they need to go more conservative, because their "moderate" candidate lost. They refuse to see the facts when their face is held down in them.

Except he hugged a Democrat. Will the hardline right be able to forgive this cardinal sin? And will another moderate, smart republican governor fall victim to the need to play up his conservative bonafides in the primaries?

Grant was a great man, and an unflinching pragmatist in war. The only problem is he allowed himself to be co-opted by his "friends" during his presidency.
