Weirdly enough, "raptor" already means rapist in Latin (really "grabber" or "snatcher" but it was often used for that). Velociraptor is literally "speedy rapist."

Wolverine in X-Men 2, I think?

Actually, the "y" comes from the Greek letter upsilon, which was probably pronounced roughly like the French "u" in "du." Also, the "th" is an explosive aspirate like the first consonant in "tea." So the word would have sounded something like "Koo-teh-ri-a." The same way that Egypt used to be "Eye-goopt." Oh, and if

I went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium last year with  couple friends and in the main hall I suddenly got an untraceable sense of deja vu. After a confused minute, I exclaimed, "Oh my god, this is where they filmed Star Trek IV!" The people I was with were not trekkies, so I had to explain that there was an entire movie

I love this. I so, so love this.

I'm also wondering what happened to the Dominion. Does this episode imply that if Sisko was killed in Season 4, the war would never have happened?

This has virtually nothing to do with the episode, but I just finished the second book of the Foundation series last night and it's really odd to see it name-checked so soon.

Actually, I find "Sub Rosa" to be very watchable, even something of a guilty pleasure. It's so infamously bad that it adds to the show's tapestry (another great episode), unlike the bland badness of at least 20 other episodes.

The one thing that really stood out in "Defiant" for me was the mention of a Cardassian "amusement center." Not amusement "park," but "center," like it's just another place that exists for a specific purpose. (Although why would anyone need to go to an amusement center/park when holosuites exist?) Also, the image of

TNG really starts to hit it's stride with "The Measure of a Man" and "Matter of Honor" in consecutive weeks, which I think are the first truly great episodes of the show. It's almost all watchable from that part forward.
