Really @Scrawler2:disqus ? I only say so as I've never read a comic since I was 8 and generally don't like superhero movies.

This won't happen. Moffat doesn't have the power to just end it because he feels like it, and if he did decide to try there'd be hell to pay.

Arse, I just realized this is the only real reason I come to the AV Club.See you in late November I suppose.

Not in a general sense.
There's callbacks to old series , but nothing much that depends on it to understand.
Even the Great Intelligence isn't necessary beyond knowing that he (it?) and the Doctor clashed before.
I always say the show can work with a Wikipedia summary of a previous concept and villain.

Also really made 9 an interesting character. The way he's so coldblooded is so important for how he eventually changed by the end.

My advice with season 1 is to pick out the ones that people say work and avoid the dross.
I'd go with Rose, skip to Dalek and then finish that way.
Regarding 2-4, I don't think you need to watch them to get into the show as is now.
I do think watching it all is the ideal, that's what my boyfriend and I have been doing,

You're an unpleasant person and there's no need to call people idiots because they disagree with you.

If you want to know how the show currently is, I think just starting at 11th Hour is fine as there's a pretty clear division between RTD and Moffat's runs.
RTD's wrapped up pretty tightly and there's been barely any real reference to it so far.
People should watch it of course, but it's not needed to get the show right

I'm torn about Tennant. Sometimes he's great, others his manic mugging distracts from the stories.

I'd say McCoy didn't overact. if anything he underacted.

It is.

I really don't get it, unless they just don't ever want to remind people the movie existed.

I'm pretty certain that even if he did want Captain Jack in the show he probably would view him as Davies' character on his other show and something he wouldn't feel as comfortable using.
The only one I'd really like seeing again would be Donna anyway.

Padorica Opens/Big Bang

The worst part about Last Of The is how I really liked Sound Of Drums and how it had set up a genuinely good scenario…and then we get that ridiculous nonsense about Martha travelling the globe and telling everyone to think positively.

I agree with that, from another POV there were no real awful episodes either.

I don't understand. One of the things I hated about the RTD era was the rotating and returning companions.

I disagree with the actions having no meaning. If she had sacrificed herself and humanity to be a space-time repairwoman she's sacrificed and that has meaning.
If you're saying the sacrifice wouldn't matter to viewers, I guess partly, though I am in the quite liking her camp.

Yeah way too fast. Personally I wouldn't have minded if Clara had been absorbed into the timestream for good, and a resurrected by Clara's actions Jenny becomes the new companion.
I really enjoy Jenny.

Grant was great. Still would have liked it to be better setup and rationalized why the GI was so solely obsessed with vengeance.
That's the problem though, Nu Who hasn't had a lot of recurring arch-enemies that it could be having that kind of neverending grudge; if it's the Daleks everyone (including me) says oh no,
