I still don't like Clara as a companion yet. Too many attributes that come from nowhere, lot of personality attributes , but but not really a character. Too perfect,too much like Martha in her crushing.I'm willing to change my mind once they get more into it, as I think there's a character in there but we haven't seen

I suspect a lot is a slight insular nature and fear of foreign in audiences.

It's not an excuse movies and TV are made to, generally speaking, make as much money as possible.

Spike's accent was a terrible one. He had a horrible case of mid-Atlantic vowels.

Irish accents always sound far too lilting and cheery when done by non-irish people.

Wasn't Kidman born in America by an accident of time and place?
I think you'll find she was raised in Australia and began her career there.

I'd say in Walking Dead's case it's because they know they don't need high quality acting. The scenario and premise is the star.
