Definitely true for actors who came from RADA and RSC.

I think over the other side of the pond celebrity is more isolated. It's sports stars, pop stars etc. Proper actors never make the gossip pages or daily toilet papers unless they really misbehave.

Alec Guinness to me would be the king of the type of chameleon like actors for me. He could almost literally play anything the way Daniel Day Lewis can without his own personality seeping out.
I think someone like Sam Rockwell is an example of an American actor who can sink into roles the way very good British actors…

I suspect this occurs with all strong accents to people from those reasons. It's natural to be hyper-sensitive to that.

Not all, but definitely some do. I have friends who refuse to tolerate chest hair or non-boyish features.
In fact some still sometimes ask what I see in who I date.

I think this speaks to audience expectations and whether they were expected realism or just entertainment.
Audiences are certainly more discerning than ever these days.

That does have to be the most luxurious form of slavery ever.

You have to also what was expected of an actor back then before the more natural style of acting came into fashion after Lee Strasberg.
