Heh heh, mule…
I can't explain why, but that scene is my favourite Simpsons moment. Everything about it destroys me. The more you think about it, the more absurd it becomes! The ball! His groin! It works on so many levels!
SIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-
'Stoner reggae fans'. I think one of the words in that phrase is redundant.
Andy Reid or GTFO.
David Simon agrees, or he misses the sarcasm and leaves a 2,000 word essay on everything that's wrong with your comment, whatever.
Ha, yeah, those naive days, before half our teams were owned by Americans, before Budweiser sponsored the FA Cup, back when you could dismiss Brad Friedel sight unseen as 'that shite keeper that can't get David James out of the Liverpool team' just because he was American… we really had a good racket going, huh?…
@avclub-0e639653c10d1353dfbc8e4a14df280e:disqus: A Yorkie bar is the Killdozer of confectionary. Thick, chunky and underappreciated.
My sister was part of a bunch of cheerleaders called the Ramettes who danced at half time during Derby games, just over ten years ago. Consequently, I got to see my team get shat on on a bi-weekly basis for free! I even got to see Emile Heskey's only career hat-trick, back when that didn't seem like such a crazy thing…
When I was a child I thought Steve Punt and Eric Idle were the same person, so his casting in this blew my mind. Not enough to make me watch it, but you know.
Since they're mentioned three times in the article, I figure I should out myself as one of the many, many people with a Rocket from the Crypt tattoo. Never got into a show for free, since they'd split up before I even got it, but consarn it if it doesn't put a smile on my face every time I see it.
Maybe it's just me, but the Burning is my favourite post-Larry David episode, so here's my time to SIIIIIIIMS it up.
Is it really criticising them? I'd have said reappraising them. The tone of the website seemed more about lauding films that maybe got overlooked at the time than damning the Oscars. I agree with your last sentence completely, but don't know if it really applies to that website.
I wasn't actually born at the time, so to me I know Devo as just a band, without any of the hype at the time. I'd definitely agree that a lot of their whole 'mythos' or whatever is bullshit if taken seriously. I can imagine if I was around at the time I'd have been pretty dismissive myself - I'm aware I'm as much of…
I do actually like and admire Christgau on the whole, and would definitely agree with you on his craft and succinctness. But there's no way he's not an asshole - even reading his better reviews I can't take it for more than about ten minutes or so.
Yeah, but it was Robert Christgau who wrote the Eraserhead quote. Christgau's really frustrating - occasionally his reviews can really hit the nail on the head, and illuminate exactly why I like or dislike an album. But then he's a massive asshole and when there's not much insight to be gained from his reviews it's…
They gave Best Supporting Actor for 1992/2012 to John Goodman for Barton Fink. They are my new heroes.
Tell me more!
All of your friends are cunts.
