I think it's more representation than eloquence. True eloquence lends itself to timelessness, sort of negating the element of generational specificity.

And Bunheads. Don't forget Bunheads. (I watch it online, not even sure when it airs.)
@avclub-4e2cd305ab0df1fa58eb84b977f7d647:disqus Yah, Jessa's line about when he lost his virginity wasn't really a detail she thought was worthy of mocking. She said it because she knew that saying that would bother him. It's like making fun of someone who is short. This is something virtually no one really cares…
Definitely Union Station in Toronto. My favourite line was from Rosen: "Empire State Building… Where the hell am I?" It came immediately after you can see a couple of Canadian flags off in the distance behind Strathairn. I laughed out loud and said, "Being in Toronto must be confusing if you thought you were in New…

How is it condescending? It's only condescending if we think you SHOULD know this crap and then get all snooty about it. It is entirely suprising when someone 10 years my junior gets a reference to something that happened in my youth. I used to work at a university and I could feel the common references slipping away…

Melanie is pretty tall for her age, and boys are cowardly and stupid, so who her age would go for her? I remember doing pretty well with her approximate demographic at one point after my older, wiser brother pointed out that very fact.

I'm 32. I saw Dead Poets Society on VHS shortly after it came out on that format. I did not get the reference at all. And I tend to be on track with just about all of them on this show. I kinda agree with the reviewer that it can be a whole lot more touching if a person says something that they thought of. If it had…

Just because of how clean any character I've seen her play is, I really want to hear her say that part where she said "asshole". Just hearing her swear would leave me in titters.

I really like this theory, but someone would say something to her at some point about the references that NO ONE is getting. Like even just a look from Ginny, with her saying, "I don't…" [head shake]

Two in the comment and one in the commenter's name. Way to make it airtight, @avclub-81fc53c51059936bda7ac43bdcb32449:disqus !

Don't let this episode be what sets your opinion. Watch the episode where Mel and her brother are fighting and Mel still tries to help Boo out with him. Mel's way cooler than this episode would lead one to believe. Same with Ginny. This episode could do with a bit of redacting. And more dancing.
