I was in the right time and place to watch this show regularly through about the last half of its original run on CBC in prime time on over-the-air network TV. I'm really grateful for how it helped develop and warp my sense of humour.
The premise of Broen/Bron sounds like the premise of the Canadian movie Bon Cop, Bad Cop, which is about the joint investigation between an Ontario Provincial Police detective and a Sûreté du Québec (Quebec provincial police) detective after a body turns on lying exactly on the border between those two provinces.

Yes! It was pretty clear from the context what the proclone meant by "sovereignty-association", but I can't imagine anyone outside Canada knowing the historical context and baggage of that term.
