I'd agree, if I hadn't heard they were going to but it was the same plot and Albert Brooks - rightly I think - convinced them to change it to a new character. Having him go from affably evil to just straight-up evil like Cargill would've ruined the character.
Good perspective, but I'll use Evil Dead instead (and I don't hate the first Zombie Halloween, mind you, just feel it was half a good prequel mashed up with a Cliff Notes remake)

Agreed, and I figured that out fifteen years ago last time I watched it with a friend - conclusion was it's really not a good movie but it's got some cool scenes and Rickman & Michael McShane are awesome.
