I haven't seen this one in a while, but from what I remember it was just sort of dull and mediocre. I also remember this one being incredibly tame and probably could've pulled off a PG rating without cutting much material. I'm a fan of Tobe Hooper but this one is far from essential viewing and not even a notable

I usually go with a first date double bill of I Spit on Your Grave / Guinea Pig: Flowers of Flesh and Blood.

Correction: The Hills Have Eyes (1977) about the mutant survivors of a nuclear-testing area - that detail was added in the remake. The original never explained why these cannibal nomads were living out in the desert and they barely qualified as mutants at all. At least, they weren't any more mutated than Michael

If you're a fan of slasher films this one has some merits. The movie looks absolutely terrific and the farmhouse setting is terrific. The killer is exceptionally creepy and the violence is well staged and very brutal. There were a handful of suspenseful moments. If you're into gore, this one has it in spades.

The villian looks creepy so maybe I'll check this one out on FX some Sunday afternoon next year. Based on the few pics I've seen though it looks like Smiley is one of those slasher films where all of the victims are Abercrombie & Fitch models. I know why they do that, but it still takes me totally out of any story and

I guess so. I think, combined with the rape-y, Jackass style d-bags and general disdain toward women it was especially distasteful. Particularly since almost none of the nudity even needed to occur in the film - the bewb shot at the beginning (frame story) and both of them during the Skype segment had absolutely

This is my review from IMDB by the way. Looking back over it now, I think I was a little kinder to the movie than I should've been: Other than the potentially interesting concept it really had very little to recommend it. And I forgot to mention: this film features a LOT of static, cigarette burns, camera waving

V/H/S combines one of my favorite horror sub-genres (the horror anthology) with one of my least favorite (found footage). Unfortunately, the movie features very little of what I like about horror anthologies with all of the things that I find annoying about found footage tapes. The best horror anthologies work because

I resisted seeing [REC] for a long time because I'm so wearing of the found footage sub-genre, but I thought it was great and actually did some clever, innovative things with the idea. I also thought the ending was just massively creepy. Overall very good horror film.

Movies like this one make it hard to be a true blue fan of the horror genre.
