On the topic of elderly lady writers, I'm kind of dreading seeing the inevitable AV Club obituary for Beverly Cleary.  I visit Carmel, California (her home, according to Wikipedia) a couple of times a year, and I always vaguely hope I'll encounter her somehow.

Cory Doctorow's Pirate Cinema recently made me want to run away from home, squat in an abandoned building, and scavenge for food in dumpsters.  And I'm 40.

So the album is like the Tao?

American Maid would wipe the floor with Hulk Hogan.

Wow, I read the BTTF novelization in high school.  Pretty forgettable, I guess, but it did mention how the Twin Pines Mall became the Lone Pine Mall, which I totally missed when I saw the movie, and which now I can't not notice.  Also, there's a not-from-the-movie scene where Doc Brown gives Marty a concrete example

Holy crap.  I just watched "Josie and the Pussycats" last night, when it finally floated to the top of my Netflix queue over three years after I put it on there thanks to Nathan's "My Year of Flops" article on it.

I snagged a number of Howard comics from the quarter bin back when I started collecting comics in the 80's.  I liked it, but in retrospect it was a bit over my teen head.  Hell, I *still* don't know what "Trapped in a world he never made!" is supposed to mean.

"A Feast for Crews."  Heh.

Do people really still play Monopoly?  I play board games frequently, but I doubt I've played Monopoly since I was ten, and until then I don't remember ever finishing a game, just abandoning it out of boredom.  The main draw for me, as a kid, was handling the play money, but that particular thrill has long been

As a very young nerdling I browsed through random Dungeons and Dragons materials without having read the rules in a comprehensive way.  I was confused by repeated expressions like "make a saving throw or die," "make a saving throw or fall asleep," etc, etc.  I wondered "Why would anyone choose not to make a saving

*spends five minutes trying to devise a reference to Vash that includes the word "stampede," gives up with a "meh"*

"What time is it?"
"Dodgeball time!"
"Damn it, Stormy!  What time is it?"
"I said it was dodgeball time, bitch!"

It's true!  But fortunately my symptoms dwindled to almost nothing once I stopped keeping the pets it turned out I was allergic to.

I went to college in northern Michigan, so to me "nasty in the pasty" sounds like having your way with the local ethnic food.  Which IS served warm and is full of gravy, so… Hmm…

I wonder what Ferengi crappers are like?  Reminds me of the toilet the aliens constructed for Dr. Lazarus in a deleted scene from GalaxyQuest.  "You're quite complicated, sir."

Ugh, I still remember feeling my expectations plummet upon reading that the first season of Enterprise would be about a "Temporal Cold War."  "No more fucking time travel, PLEEEEASE" I wailed.

"Trials" will always be the most memorable episode of DS9 for me, because:

Indeed, it's from "Bring Me the Head of Boba Fett!"

Archer vs Dr. Liu!

Do you really think you're on her radar?
