I remember thinking Pyramids was a little flimsy, like the early-ish ones occasionally were even after getting into the groove of things (I basically discount the first three books and think of the series as starting with Mort). Maybe I should revisit it.

That's true too, sadly.

Your first point is right. That's how it was for me until a few months ago; it felt kind of Hollywood-y at the time it came out, I figured I'd see it eventually, and one day I saw that it was on demand on tv, and was like ok I guess I'll see this. Then like two hours later I was a weepy, blubbering mess.

UMD, yeah, I had opened the reply box before you further elaborated so I didn't see that before posting my response—damn discus impeding  the reasonable discussions. I get more clearly now that you object to the actual mid-show heckling; and that on principle is what the other comedians are rallying around. But

But according to your bizarre and naive idea that the free market is this magical thing that magically regulates and punishes people who hatemonger, this woman calling him out with the resulting media frenzy IS the market exerting its magical influence. So your comment makes no sense.

Um, no @avclub-3f0120c8dcf9d18404640edbed84e57d:disqus and @avclub-db0c35ce2663c0e8c4b3f38642a49748:disqus , that comment was gross and does in its small way contribute to a misogynist culture in which sexual violence against women is played for a punchline. While references to rape are supposed to be funny for their

I would say it is in general decline. The last couple seemed a little slapdash—there are great moments in the recent ones, as some ppl mention above, but the books as a whole don't gel as well—they just lack some of the narrative complexity and emotional punch of the earlier ones. E.g., I'm rereading Feet of Clay

I'm really confused as well—were these people not around immediately after 9/11? Everyone was going on and on about "Is Cynicism Dead?" (that was a headline for Time or Newsweek or something). The post-9/11 sentiment wasn't cynical morbidity; it was rah-rah USA black-and-white representations of good and evil.

That's not the morning-after pill, that's actually the abortion pill. And I think it would be the easiest and most discreet option at this point. Surely there's some sketchy doctor that could prescribe it to, e.g., Amy for her to hand over to Selina.
