If it's Argentina like I think it is he is either deeply confused or just 15 years old—in either case holding onto misogynistic tendencies. How exciting it must be for your dates to listen to what constitutes "good literature."

I was surprised to see that A-. I loved this episode! It was non-stop joke-y, and I love the policy cynicism much more than the personal or scatological incidents in earlier episodes. The episodes for this show have all been strong, and I think this was my favorite so far.

I'm from there and in elementary school there was one teacher who would end every class by yelling LAS MALVINAS SON ARGENTINAS before exiting the classroom.

I…. have an awkward thing for Vondas.

Right, it seemed like on so many episodes this season they would have gladly sent home more than one chef in all those clusterfuck team challenges—it's such a shame that someone had to go home from this largely successful dinner.

…. you're really comparing "all of Roman late Republican and Early Imperial history" with "a book a dude wrote once" as source material for a tv show?

1) Carnivale
2) The Wire
3) Deadwood
4) Rome
5) Boardwalk Empire (yeah I said it)

I remember in the context of the Deadwood reviews the idea of positioning the 3 big HBO shows on a chronological arc in the development of the USA's civilization/political organization: Deadwood as microcosm of the foundation and formation of a civilization (and USA in general), Sopranos as allegory for the role of an

I am so surprised to hear anyone say that, and Todd's mention of that above as well. I think it's my favorite, and agree with @avclub-5df8183cf66091fca4c813ffbd379b1e:disqus and @avclub-55655e3296788419699ec577c7a76f6b:disqus that it both reflects the creepy tragic feel of the show and fits the style of the opening of

Scratch that. The more I think about this review, and read the things you link to, the more I realize that this may be my favorite TV show, period. I know in my brainz that The Wire and Deadwood and so on are Better and More Important shows, but the combination of setting and mythology and texture in Carnivale just

I am so pleased you're reviewing this, it's one of my favorite HBO shows!

I wish I could like this more than once. Which I always thought was a moronic phrase, but that was before the image of George Washington with dicks on his feet came into my life.

I am not on the fence at all. What happened to Sarah was unfortunate, but Ed was left in a very compromised position (since Ty-lor had immunity, if the team's food went downhill he would carry the weight of it) and his frustration was absolutely understandable. He and Ty-lor rallied admirably and set up a system to

No way. She will continue to flirt with Malibu and make adorably off-color remarks and make comparatively unsophisticated food until she gets kicked off (soonish).

WWI is having a mini-resurgence. It's also they key event for Downton Abbey. That and this film count as a resurgence, right?

I fully expected her to go home; what a stupid dish. Plus, she was looking really different (and generally defensive) in her confessional segments.

Heather is nuts. I curled up into a fetal position of third-party embarrassment during her tirade at the judging table.

Ha, during the scene with the teapot I was distracted by watching the burner under the kettle. I kept thinking "That burner is on and that kettle will boil right in the middle of that tense conversation and it will be SO AWKWARD" but then obviously it was there to punctuate the discussion.

This isn't the first time he's done that; I rewatched the Quinceañera episode last night after this one and he took full blame for his dry fritter, which he had had to whip up last minute because of the Pre-Cooked Shrimp Incident.
