That was a stunning episode!
And the return of original Top Chef was stupendous! And happy birthday Scott Tobias!

Julian Sands
is super-creepy. I have vague memories of soft-core-porny films of his in late-night cable, and they were always deeply unsettling.

Yeah I'm surprised at how much he has to say, and how thoughtfully expressed; I really enjoyed this interview.

I saw that recently and it BLEW MY MIND. I cannot recommend that Oedipus Rex enough, good call Zombie!

Megan that is some truly wonderful investigative work. Those quotes made my brain bleed—I can't believe they originated from quasi-literate english speakers :(

This is hilarious
Thank you for going and for writing about it. That ball looks truly horrific, a sea of sweaty adolescent chub and cheap, cheap fabric.

That sounds very cool. Lydia's suicide note would make a fantastic sappy solo number:

Is Gilliam still holding out? Or is his Good Omens a lost cause? It would be so awesome.

Revisiting the O Brother environment
The Coen brothers should tackle some Faulkner.

Or even Mira Nair, for that matter—she did a nice job of exoticizing London in Vanity Fair (even though parts of that movie fell flat); she could blend in a lot of the bizarreness and underlying filth of Julio-Claudian Rome.

Also
I enjoyed Julie Taymore's Titus, and I'd probably enjoy an adaptation of the Oresteia trilogy with her direction.

Petronius's Satyricon
Could use a reworking, whether you love or loathe the Fellini version. I think a Guillermo del Toro, or an Alfonso Cuaron could give a nice aesthetic to it.

Yeah, another blogger (mimismartypants) made fun of this a year and a half ago:

Screw Heath Ledger
I'm just excited for new Terry Gilliam.

SURELY
You mean Thora Birch was looking at breast reduction, not augmentation? Didn't she have an uncomfortably massive bosom? Just saying.

Another cool drinking buddy, I think, would be Alpana Singh, hostess of Chicago's PBS Check, Please! (Nathan Rabin was on that show and recommended an awesome BBQ place we went to the very next day.—Rabin, did you become instant BFFs after that?)

I would love
To go on a drinking binge with Anthony Bourdain.

I miss Perry Bible Fellowship; I re-read the archives pretty routinely.
